Hike the Old River Trail for about 3.5 miles (multiple wet river crossings, not crossable during high water) and look for a volunteer trail on the left that leads up the hill to the Goat Trail along Big Bluff.
I set out early in the morning to hike the Old River Trail and take some photos of bluffs along the river. Came across an unexpected volunteer trail that led to the top of one of the bluffs for a dramatic view over the Ponca Wilderness and Buffalo National River area. Spring and fall are by far the best seasons for hiking, but the greens of the forest in summer are fantastic if you can tolerate the ticks, chiggers and mosquitos.
