Description

In November, summer is about to arrive in East Africa. The temperature builds, and the dry season eventually comes to an end as the "Small Rains" start to fall. Sunset is a magical time in the extremely isolated Ruaha National Park in South Central Tanzania. The clouds start to gather, but until the rain finally starts to fall the air is dusty, and the sunsets have a colorful intensity. The baobab trees lose their leaves during the dry season, but a week or two before the rain they start to blossom and sprout new growth. The still naked branches look stark against the evening sky. I took the image with a Canon 7D Mark II with an EF 100-400 mm f/4.5 - 5.6L IS II USM lens with 1.4x III teleconverter. The exposure settings were 1/250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 100, 140 mm.
