I have photographed birds at Bosque del Apache several times. I usually photograph the large concentrations of Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese, but occasionally I am able to photograph raptors. In this case, I saw a hawk sitting on a branch, so I pulled up and used my truck as a blind. When he took flight, I did not notice there was another hawk in the tree. Just as I was framing the hawk I saw, the other one took flight right behind him. The action took place far enough away that, even at full zoom, they both fit in the frame. Sometimes, it just pays to be lucky.
