Description

Death Valley has the distinction of being the "hottest place on earth." It officially reached 130 degrees (F) twice in recent years, and its 1913 record of 134 degrees (F) has stood the test of time. This particular photo of Badwater Basin--the lowest point in Death Valley--depicts this "hottest place" moniker very well. The clouds look like flames rising from the horizon above this unbelievably hot location.
