Description
After catching a salmon from atop Brooks Falls, this male Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) has retreated to a small. flat stone to strip off the fatty skin, the highest-calorie-content part of the fish, to devour it. If the fish is a hen, the bear will also eat the eggs. Only later on in the season, when fewer fish are available to harvest, do the bears eat the meat.
