Take Interstate 5 south of Sacramento to the town of Thornton. Drive west on W. Walnut Grove Road about 3 miles to Staten Island Road where these and other waterfowl are protected.
Description
Many Sandhill cranes spend their winters in the Central Valley of California, seeking nightly protection in flooded rice fields, then flying out to their feeding grounds at sunrise.
