My wife and I spent I two weeks diving off Taveuni, Fiji to photograph the incredible amount of biodiversity inhabiting their reefs. One of my photographic goals was to capture the beauty above and below the surface. This was accomplished by placing my lovely wife in a colorful kayak and photograph her paddling over a shallow reef covered in tropical fish. This was a much harder image to capture than I envisioned. It took going out 5 different days at low tide to capture the image. It was extremely hard to keep my camera level at the water line since the seas were never calm, and the surge at low tide was powerful. It was equally hard for my wife to keep the kayak steady and in one place. Clear skies were a must since I needed all the ambient light to illuminate the corals in conjunction with my flash, and give the underwater portion a nice blue tint. The captured image was worth the effort
