Slot Canyon Moon Rise
Composite of images from a stationary camera, as the scene changed through the night to capture the image of the moon rising above the canyon walls.
I hiked this slot canyon during the day using an app to try to determine when and where I could see the moon above the canyon walls. This particular spot was my most likely location. I put my camera on a tripod, pointed it up, and zoomed in tightly where the canyon walls came together, and the moon was expected to appear. At twilight, I shot the canyon walls. After dark, I took another shot, light painting the canyon walls to bring out some of the colors. When the stars came out, I took another shot. As the app predicted, I took a picture when the moon appeared in the gap. I combined the four images in post processing to produce this image. I had tried this technique several times in the past, but this is the only time it was successful.
