The Misfits

I wanted to capture and see for myself the beautifully wild and free mustangs of Mono County. I took this photo in 2020 and the mustang herd at Adobe Valley was quite big and they seemed to be confined to the small valley just west of Benton. But in the past few years the mustangs in Mono county have grown in numbers and have migrated to the south shore of Mono Lake. These beautiful animals have been quite the problem for the freshwater springs, bird habitat, and even some of the tufas. While photographing fighting stallions amongst the tufas with mono lake in the background sounds like a great photo, it would be terrible for the delicate tufas and bird habitat.
