The Ridgeline

Outside of Radium Hot Springs is a turn off that leads you down a series of logging roads that take you to the trailhead. It is a strenuous 3.5-mile hike up to the park.

My climbing buddy and I climbed Pigeon Spire in Bugaboo Provincial Park, in British Columbia, Canada. I debated about bringing my DSLR camera, not wanting to haul the extra weight up the peak. Since I did bring the camera with me, I spent the whole climb looking for that unique perspective to capture the drama of climbing and the rugged beauty of the mountains. When we got to a saddle, I knew immediately that this was the image I wanted. I let my climbing buddy get further ahead of me on the ridgeline so he would stand out in his red jacket against the grey granite. This particular view really emphasizes the exposure and excitement of the climb. I am so glad that I carried the extra weight.
