American dippers are fun birds to photograph. They pick a spot on a lake or stream, start bobbing up and down, and then dive into the water after bugs only to come back up in the exact spot where they dove into the water. There is one dipper that likes to sit on a log at the west end of Brainard Lake in Colorado. Each morning the sun rises behind him but on this particular morning the colors were quite colorful. Positioning myself quietly on the west side of the bird, I snapped a shot of him on his favorite perch.
