Description

A rookery in Denver's City Park brings in hundreds of cattle egrets, snowy egrets, black-crowned night herons, cormorants, and Canada geese each spring to nest in the safety of an island in the middle of a lake. As the sun rises, some of the cattle egrets start to venture onto the grassy areas to look for food. This one egret positioned himself with the sun to his back. I do not typically photograph wildlife with a flash so I liked the effect of the light coming through the colorful breeding plumage.
