I had my camera set up to shoot hummingbirds on the currant flowers right beside a pull-out from the park road. I actually got some decent hummingbird shots in the wonderful Colorado morning light, when I saw a coyote trot into the field behind the currant bush. I see and photograph a lot of coyotes, but this one jumped on something and then started pulling on it and rolling around on it and then I finally saw that the coyote had a snake. At first, the coyote gently tossed the snake, but then it got more and more excited, tossing the snake higher and higher and further and further. This shot shows its wild-eyed excitement near the end of a fifteen-minute episode. I took a couple of hundred images of the event and now have six grouped on my office wall to tell the whole story. I think that this one best shows the coyote's excitement. The coyote tired and simply walked away. I went out to find the snake and it was gone.
