Description

The (mostly) dry Owens Lake at the southern end of the Owens Valley in California's Eastern Sierra, is in reality a thriving bird habitat listed by the Audubon Society as an IBA ("Important Bird Area"). Migrating birds along the Pacific Flyway use the lake as a stopping place (some call it home year round, including the California Gull). While much of the lake may appear to be a wasteland, it's a rich food source for the birds.
