A common Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) male duck guarding his mate further in the grass of Cook's Meadow in Yosemite National Park. • While attempting to photograph a reflection of Half Dome in a small marsh within the meadow, a female Mallard began emerging from the grass. Upon seeing me, she went back into the grass. So I laid down at the bank of the marsh and waited. While I only saw a glimpse of her between the grass, the male came out to make sure everything was okay.
