Bear pond is one of two small ponds or glacial tarns that sit at the top of Mount Mansfield. The hike to bear pond is difficult and should always be done with two or more people. The trail to the pond used to be maintained but is no longer kept up and can be quite treacherous in spots. A 3 a.m. hike up the mountain in Summer for sunrise led to a side hike here to this pond. It's really remote and most likely there won't be another soul around!
