In anticipation of visiting New Mexico this winter, I decided to plan a trip to Bosque Del Apache near Socorro. I had always wanted to photograph the Sandhill Cranes there and planned our trip. My husband is very wonderful at driving to these locations(even though he is not a photographer). We arrived late in the day and noticed a small lake located outside the entrance to the bosque. (The locals pronounce bosque, bos-k.) The Sandhill Cranes were flying onto the lake to roost for the night. It was so fantastic to see these large birds fly over and land. They were also very loud. We staying briefly and then drove through the gate into the park. We looked around and then decided to find a place to stay for the night. We got up early the next morning to watch and photograph the sandhills take off from their roosting area. We spend the day searching in the cornfields for sandhills and snow geese. We got some good photos and then decided to leave for the day. On the way out, we stopped at the small lake again. We stayed until the sun was about to drop behind the mountains and were rewarded with the most gorgeous sunset I have ever seen.
