Taken within 10 miles of home: This was taken during nautical twilight between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. I live in a city with lots of trees and few open areas. I have to do what I have to do to practice so I work the over photographed subjects in Washington. Like most photographer's, if I can call myself that, I'm always looking for a new way to photograph clichéd subjects. The same issue haunts me photographing Icons like Half Dome, Delicate Arch or Mobius Arch. The one thing I noticed about well known Icons is that the mind can fill in the blanks. I'm pushing that theory in this picture. The Washington Monument, an element in this picture, is recognizable by most people. The obscured parts are filled in by the viewers mind (At least I hope so). Because of that , the Icon can be used nicely as an element and not the main subject. The Icon is still conveyed in the entirety. Again, I'm pushing that theory in this picture but the main subject is the walkway and the leading lines. The Monument is just an element.
