I took a quick trip to the local Sierras the morning after a strong winter storm. My plan was to arrive at Shaver Lake for sunrise but my timing was off. Realizing I would not make it to my destination in time, I made a decision to stop off at a vista point that would give me a south eastern view of the sky. I set up for a few panoramic images but the sky started to change rapidly. I quickly moved my camera to landscape and shot the image at 24mm. Watching the explosive scene unfold, I was taken by the contrast of the cold blue scene with the vibrant warm colors illuminating on the horizon.
