Wide angle landscape vistas of aspen forests in the autumn are stunning but close-up images reveal more detail of these beautiful trees. I tried to capture a view of both the trunks and the heart shaped leaves and this thicket of aspens allowed me to do just that in this photograph. The shadow effect of the leaves on the trunks helped add some depth to the exposure. This was one of the best autumns in many years for aspen viewing in Colorado and I was fortunate to capture them at near peak color on Boreas Pass.
