Maroon Bells: Aspen, Colorado A long time ago, long before I every became a photographer I'd seen a photo in a magazine (Time or NG) of hundreds of photographers lined up in front of a spectacular scene. The article noting that the particular landscape was one of the most photographed in the U.S. I distinctly remember the image because it registered as odd, that level of enthusiasm for the art seemed. This Autumn I'd find myself sleeping in the back of my SUV in freezing cold temps with an alarm malfunction that lead to a very persistent Australian photographer (Pete) trying to wake me up. I was so exhausted by this time from traveling all over Az, Utah and Colorado that I didn't even know where I was that particular morning. I hurriedly got up, bundled up (didn't help) and stood on the shores of a scene I couldn't see in the pitch of darkness but the I wasn't alone by any means. In the complete darkness stood hundreds of other photographers ( I think I counted about 3 female shooters) all milling around and waiting for the sunrise. In truth, I was a bit underwhelmed by the sunrise shot but shortly after they ALL left? At sunrise as I stood there in disbelief of the sheer amount of bodies, camera gear and electronic noise coming from such an incredible location….then it dawned on me. I was in THE exact place, I'd seen all those years ago in the magazine. There I was part of the many and bitten by that same enthusiasm !! It was an incredible bit of discovery so of course I had to take a photo of it.
