Take Hwy 89 south from Lake Tahoe. This location is one mile east of the junction with Hwy 88.
This valley south of the Tahoe basin was a major route of gold rush pioneers. The first rain of the season had cleared the air of smoke from California's late summer forest fires. A short climb through the woods just before the sun went below the Sierra crest was rewarded with this view of glowing aspen and marsh willow along the west fork of the Carson River
