Spotting a large bull elk from the road, I immediately parked and got out of my car to get a closer look. Snow had just started falling, and as I wandered farther from my vehicle the elk continued away from the road, eventually disappearing into the blizzard. The snowfall had really intensified - high winds whipping giant, wet snowflakes through the air. It was October and the cottonwoods were changing colors. In this moment the snow and wind combined to create an intense moment in which the color of autumn was wrapped in the biting cold of winter.
