Originally mapped by the 1805 Lewis & Clark Expedition to the Pacific Ocean, the rock was deeded to the State of Washington by its private conservators in 1935 and trails were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Beacon Rock is an 846-ft. monolith/core of an anccient volcano flanking the Columbia River, popular for rock climbers and trail hikers. In autumn, the vine mapel splash its steep cliffs with glorious color.
