Observing elk behavior during the annual autumn rut is a favorite pastime of many people and one of the prime viewing areas is Rocky Mountain National Park. In September, 2009 I was among many photographers who were present for this spectacle. One evening I set up my gear and focused on this majestic male who soon began to call for his harem with his bugling. Soon after I made this image he started toward the band of photographers and we all scurried back to our vehicles. However, he was not the least interested in us but made his way across the road to gather some of his females who had wandered to distant from the herd.
