Capturing images in a moving zodiac can be quite the challenge. WE positioned the craft with the beautiful morning sky and mountains in the background with the hope that the humpback would emerge in a given area. For an hour that is precisely what this whale did. Shot this image at 1/1000th second, shutter priority with an ISO of 400.
Early on the morning of September 11th we were alone in the waters off Avila Beach, California in a small zodiac when we came upon a solitary humpback whale who over the course of an hour exhibited thrilling behavior including multiple epic breaches. The whale followed the path of our boat consciously interacting with us. Unforgettable experience.
