This picture was taken on the Potomac River at Great Falls National Park, Virginia. For this picture I climbed out on the rocks above the anticipated subject area to get a better vantage. I wore a kayaker's helmet and flotation. The park service won't allow anyone to do this without a helmet and life vest on. In either case, It's good I dawned the safety gear in this area. The additional precaution allowed me more flexibility and, of course, more options. I placed my camera on a tripod and hooked up my cable release. I was close to the edge. The cable release gave me a few extra crucial inches to get the subject and composition in frame without putting my life in jeopardy. There were numerous distractions to deal with so it was important to isolate the subject. In addition to that gear, I brought my 70-200mm L II on a 1.6 crop camera for the job.
