Once on the island of Newfoundland, head east on the Trans Canada Highway until you see the green sign saying Welcome to St. John's. Exit Allandale Road. Turn right on Mount Scio Road. #306 on the right. Turn at the MUN Botanical Garden signage. Park. Small entrance fee. Then walk the trails at will.
Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden is the province’s only botanical garden and is 44 hectares of cultivated gardens and nature trails, surrounding beautiful Oxen Pond.
An unsuspecting bug lands in what it thinks is a lovely swimming pool. The leaves of the Pitcher plant act like a pitfall trap, a deep pocket of leaves, attached at the edges filled with liquid. The insect slips down the sides of the leaves, falls into the liquid, drowns eventually becoming absorbed by the plant. Another enchanting surprise during a meditative hike through the Memorial Universities Botanical Gardens.
