I photographed this scene in September, 2000 with my first digital camera, a 1.3 MP Olympus D-340L which I had purchased 2 years earlier. A friend and I were out to image some fall color after an overnight snowfall in Pike National Forest. When the clouds began to part and the sun broke through them I knew I had a short window of time before the snow would melt and evaporate from the pine trees and the ground. We were approaching the 10,000 foot level and the mountains surrounding us were also snowcapped but I wanted to capture the valley below and the clouds above. Although by today's standards a 1.3 MP camera is a dinosaur, it still took a pretty good picture (of course a little "tweeking" in Photoshop helped)! I had submitted this photo for Assignment #64, "In the Mountains", but it seems appropriate for this assignment also.
