This shot was taken about 4 miles up the Longs Peak Trail on a blustery November morning following an overnight snowstorm. Deep snow covered the trail making the route somewhat challenging in the pre-dawn darkness. The soft focus of the background mountain is caused by snow blowing off of Longs Peak to the west. To the viewer at least, this photo likely conjures up the feeling of isolation, peace and quite called for in this week's assignment. The reality at the time, however, was brutal cold, fierce wind and extreme discomfort. Less than ideal shooting conditions. Without proper clothing, gear, chemical hand and foot warmers, and patience, the image would have been nearly impossible to capture.
