The summit crater of volcano Cotopaxi, elevation: 19,347 ft (5,897 m). We left the hut at midnight and climbed throughout the night. There was no wind and the temperature was rather mild. We could see the lights of Quito 50 km away and even further away distant lightning illuminating the clouds. The moon and stars were shinning bright. We reached the summit of Cotopaxi "Neck of the Moon" not long after sunrise. It was breathtaking and spectacular! February 27, 2015 Cotopaxi, Ecuador.
