Typically, I become more excited when a cloudy or moody sky offers a better possibility to capture a dramatic scene. However, pristine landscapes, including the Ansel Adams Wilderness, can also be best portrayed in a cloudless tranquil setting. With clear skies and calm winds forecasted, I hiked to one of my favorite High Sierra locations, Ediza Lake. After camping nearby, I woke up early to set up at a spot, which I had scouted the evening before. I learned the hard way that mosquitos are about the only thing that can interrupt the tranquility and solitude here, so make sure to include plenty of insect repellent with your gear. This will make it easier to focus on photographing the immense beauty of the area.
