I took this shot while on a day trip in Denali National Park early summer 2014. I had parked in a parking lot and set off to take a panoramic shot of the snow capped mountains. After walking about 500 yards from my vehicle I began to set up my equipment. After taking my shots I heard something crunching threw the waist high brush, having nothing to protect myself I began to panic (thinking my luck had ran out and I would come face to face with a brown bear)I picked up all of my equipment and began to back up as slowly and quietly as I could . I got about 30 feet when a small group of caribou came over the hill about 50 yards from me. I was so relieved that it was not a brown bear with cubs I forgot that I had my camera with me and they began to run. I was only sneak up and get about 12 shots before they seen me and ran to far for me to catch them again.
