From the Central Entrance of the park (Route 33), head north for about 10 miles to the Bearfence parking lot. The trailhead is across the street and it's an easy two mile loop. Note: not a great idea for kids or dogs as there is quite a scramble.
At the end of last summer I made a quick trip up to Shenandoah from my home in Charlottesville, hoping to capture the Blue Ridge with rays of light piercing through the clouds, to truly capture the gracefulness of these mountains. I scrambled up to one of my favorite lookouts, and the sun filtered through perfectly, giving me lovely silhouettes of the mountains along with that warmth that comes with the season. The park may not get as much attention as some out west, but it holds so much beauty if you know where to look!
