Park at the Tunnel view overlook on Wnanona Road.
This image was made during a workshop led by Gary Hart and co-led by Don Smith. Their expert guidance made this image possible.
This was a planned shot as part of Gary Hart's Yosemite Moon workshop. Gary had calculated when and where the full moon would rise. The only uncertainty was whether the local conditions would allow for a good view. We set up near the parking area at Tunnel View and waited. The moon showed up right on schedule and right where Gary said it would be. It was a beautiful sight That will be etched in memory for life! My longest lens was 200mm which was not enough to do the scene justice. So I decided to shoot in portrait orientation and shoot a series of frames that I could later stitch together as a pano and then crop it down to get get a pleasing composition with enough resolution to make a nice print. The raw files were stitched together using the new Adobe Lightroom CC image merge function.
