From Estes Park, take the south entrance into Rocky Mountain National Park; take the first left and follow the road until it ends at the Bear Lake parking lot. Hiking maps are available. Follow the hiking trail signs toward and then past Alberta Falls. Mills Lake is about a 4-mile hike away from the parking lot and is of medium difficulty due to the gain in altitude.
I go to Mills Lake on the west slope of Longs Peak (14,259 ft.), as often as I can. Every season produces myriad opportunities to create wonderful new images. It's not usually at all crowded and is located near a number of other beautiful spots such as The Loch and Sky Pond. And sometimes, the wildlife, like this neat little Mallard, cooperate to make the images just that much more interesting.
