An approaching storm provided the reason to head to the Natural Bridges State Beach. Coastal storms coming into the Monterey Bay area tend to first have fog (or marine layer) that obscures the cloud patterns at higher elevations. This was a lucky day, aided by checking webcams and satellite weather images before leaving home. The original intent was to capture both surf and sky—of which a few shots were caught. Soon, however, the clouds began to stack up, providing mildly interesting cloud patterns, but very little light. This photograph is a result of the light filtering through a break in the cloud front, somewhat spotlighting the right edge of the rock formation—which was much more interesting than what could be seen in the overhead view.
