North Cheyenne Creek flows through North Cheyenne Canyon City Park in southwest Colorado Springs. The sheer, tall walls of the canyon permit very few rays of sunlight to penetrate the area thus allowing the snow to remain for longer periods of time. The many rocks in the creek accumulate snow and ice forms thin layers where the flow of the creek is interrupted by those rocks. I made this photograph on 6 January 2014 a few days after a significant snowfall when the road became passable. The snow was still pristine, the air was very cold and the scene just seemed to tell the story of winter in the Canyon.
