Description

On 26 June 2012 the Waldo Canyon Wildfire crested the foothills west of Colorado Springs and entered the city. Over 340 homes were destroyed. The trunks of thousands of pine trees that were burned still stand like black toothpicks on some of those hills. After snowfalls they can prominently be seen. In February, 2013 I went out to photograph some of this area and spotted these two conical hills which I was able to frame with a "V" shaped break in a strand of partially burned trees. This resulted in a diamond appearance in the center of the picture. The grey sky seemed to complement the somber mood of the scene.
