I photograph bears a lot in the summer but I know I am not the only one. There are a lot of people looking for that show of the brown bear charging through the water after a salmon. I have that shot but I want something different, something more personal about these bears. They are amazingly powerful animals yet when they are fishing for salmon they don't worry about anything other than getting those fish. A bear's eyes show those warm-hearted expressions I often see with brown bears. As I photographed the bears at McNeil River, I looked for unique perspectives and close ups of the bears. This bear just rose out of the water in front of me and I was able to capture the expression of pure comfort that comes with a full belly while still showing a little of the action of water dripping off of the face after rising from the water.
