I've been trying to get a picture that shows the stark contrast between the lush forests and torched hillsides of the Jemez Mountains, which have been ravaged by many severe wildfires in the past few decades, decimating the trees. This picture was unexpected, but a perfect opportunity to emphasize the power of nature. During a foggy morning, as the sun came up, rays of light pierced through the trees and illuminated this hillside, striking the boundary where the devastating Las Conchas Fire of 2011 burned. The lower left of the image used to be a thick forest, similar to the rest of the image. The forest was so overgrown that the fire was well-fueled; nearly nothing was spared.
