The Maroon Bells are one of the most photographed areas of Colorado. In late September, 2015 I was able to capture this image of the Bells and Maroon Lake at the peak of the aspen tree color change. I tried to compose it from a different point of view rather than the classic iconic view where the mountains are centered with their reflection in the lake. My main subject was the lake with its green algal bottom and the yellow aspens reflected on it. The sun was off to the side and slightly behind the camera as it came over the mountains to the left thus illuminating the Bells and the aspen trees. The shadows and the green pines added contrast to the brightly lit aspen trees.
