Description

Intricate textures converge towards a partially-buried tumbleweed on the face of the Eureka Dunes, in Death Valley National Park (well, the lines don't actually converge - just an optical illusion created by the wide-angle lens!). The Eureka Dunes are a spectacular set of massive dunes in the northern part of Death Valley National Park, only accessed following either a long drive through Lone Pine, CA, or an arduous dirt road through Death Valley NP itself. Standing almost 700 ft off the valley floor, these dunes are by far the tallest in the park. The remoteness also means that neat patterns created by the wind are preserved for much longer periods of time, whereas the Mesquite Dunes face a continuous onslaught of footprints and traffic.
