A winter storm was moving through the area, so I got up and headed to the Buttermilks to get a good view of the Eastern Sierra. Winter sunrises are dramatic-a beam of sunlight hits the mountains like a laser. Just as this moment occurred the wind blew clouds in front of the peaks. I thought my shot was ruined, but later decided I liked the effect. It was freezing cold, the wind was blowing fiercely, and it felt wild to be standing there watching this unfold. I was glad to be able to capture the moment.
