At an elevation above 8000 feet, the north rim is a great way to beat the summer heat and still capture the magic of the summer monsoons. On this particular trip, my first visit to the north rim, we had planned on camping at point sublime. After driving for nearly two hours on borderline 4x4 roads we arrived at the point and set up camp. Not long after, our group headed out to wait it out for a beautiful canyon sunset. With the fast moving clouds, we were starting to worry about a lackluster sunset. However, since we had cell service we were able to check the weather on the internet which called for storms to move northeast. That would put some great clouds right in front of us. The western horizon was clear, so there would surely be some colors to appreciate. Finally as the sun hid behind the horizon, the sky lit up in a kaleidoscope of color. With the storms making the way towards us we watched brief lightning storms and even had a rainbow begin at the horizon. The point definitely lived up to the name, and it was well worth the adventure to make it out here.
