Outside of the Courthouse building and Broome County Jail, there is an old machine gun barrel display, that is part of the Korean War Tribute. I thought what made this perspective interesting is the in your face fear of this barrel of a gun. You have this image of instant justice, or a weapon of fear, right outside of an area that is considered safe and an enforcer of justice. I mean in this background you have a courthouse, jail, police station, and other governmental buildings designed to ensure the public safety. Suddenly this intrusive barrel sits in public view as a reminder to those who have sacrificed their lives; yet for me this angle is a reminder that our society is always looking down the barrel of fear and crime.
