Hunting Island is a nature and landscape photographer's paradise, full of beautiful subjects, from macro nature to wide seascapes along the beach, plus a historic lighthouse. Still mild during winter, days in January and February you can have the island practically to yourself. The wide marshlands on the other side also provide great settings for sunsets, particularly with shrimp boats in the foreground. This location has been used for location shooting for scenes of many movies, most notably the Viet Nam segment in 'Forrest Gump.'
The low sun on an afternoon in January, on the beach at Hunting Island State Park, just east of Beaufort along the coast of South Carolina. This beach is kept completely natural with all the old tree trunks that have been washed-up on the beach with the tides. These subjects provide a wonderful foreground subject against a beautiful sky.
