Land of Ra

About halfway between Page, AZ and Kanab, UT, The Wave Trailhead is located off Highway 89 on House Rock Valley Road
More information on how to obtain a permit to hike The Wave can be found at http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/arolrsmain/paria/coyote_buttes.html
This rock formation is known as The Wave, and is managed as a fragile ecosystem of Navajo Sandstone on the AZ-UT border by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM.) Only 20 people per day are allowed to visit, and I was fortunate to win the daily lottery with my son in November 2015. We hiked the three miles across hills of rock and around buttes beginning shortly after sunrise to optimize our time taking photographs, and it seemed good fortune was on our side. It was a sunny day with a high temp around 70 degrees (instead of over 100 which it often is during summer months,) and water pools where the waves formed by swirling rock fins and color striations were mirrored back in crystal clear reflections.
