Ft. Matanzas National Monument is off of Florida A1A, about 12 miles south of St. Augustine and a mile north of Marineland. There is a free tour boat over to the small fort that was built by the Spanish to protect St. Augustine from attack up the Matanzas River.

While visiting Ft. Matanzas National Monument on the Matanzas River south of St. Augustine, Fl., I noticed several pelicans fishing to the south of the monument. I focused in on one pelican who seemed to be circling in an attempt to land. I timed my bursts on the downward spiral and was able to get this shot just before the pelican made a soft landing in the river
