Description

The "Boneyard" area of Jekyll island on the Atlantic Coast provides numerous weathered and fallen trees immediately adjacent to the water. On this morning I was hiking on the beach headed for a sunrise location I had picked out the day before but when I saw this scene I stopped and spent time trying different compositions of my favorite subject - trees. I took a long exposure, 15 seconds, to smooth the water, a technique I like to use when the pre-sunrise colors provide soothing pastels - the water and sky are soft and provide a contrast to the weathered and jagged trees in silhouette.
